The Knockout rose bush was created by a Wisconsin breeder named William Radler. He introduced the hybrid and was awarded the All-American Rose award in 2000. Sales took off and the knockout hybrids have become one of the most beloved types of this plant.

His most recent hybrid the double Knockout, introduced in 2005, has proved to be equally popular. This plant has flowers that have twice as many petals as the regular Knockout and has larger blooms.

Because of their low maintenance these plants are ideal for the beginner who wants beautiful roses without having to know too much about them. They are insect resistant. This means that you do not have to have a regular spraying regime like other types of roses. They are also unyielding to rust and powdery mildew.

You do not have to deadhead these double Knockouts because their blooms will automatically fall off. This allows new blooms to form and stimulates the plant to yield more flowers.

They want minimum pruning in the late winter early spring, to get rid of dead weed and crisscross growth. They contend their shape quite well but you can give them a little trimming to contend a neat appearance if you wish.

Like all roses the Knockout varieties like at least 6 hours of sun. They also prefer an organic medium of compost and soil mix. Water them when the ground gets dry. Alternatively you can use a wood bark mulch to keep the soil nearby your bush from drying out and also to keep the roots of the plant cool in hot summer months.

Double Knockout rose buses come in bright red and vibrant pink. With their larger blooms they can add color and class to your garden. Other Knockout types are available in many other colors. Examples of these are, Sunny, with its beautiful yellow blooms that fade as the flower ages and the rainbow range that has pink covering petals and yellow centers. There is another one that is called Blushing and this one has coral pink flowers that fade as the blooms age.

In order to propagate your Knockouts you can take cuttings. This can be done at any time of the year.

Tips for cuttings:

• Make sure that your shears are sharp so that you can make a clean cut without damaging the cutting. This will ensure that it grows better.
• Position the cut correctly by cutting a little above the third bud on the branch
• Make a diagonal cut.
• Put in organic medium.
• You can use root hormone increase powder to stimulate the root increase for your cutting, but it regularly just roots on its own.

You will be able to propagate your beautiful Knockout rose bush with these cuttings and enjoy the beauty they bring to your garden.
